On Sunday morning, February 26, 2006, fifty-two members and guests climbed aboard their chartered bus for the ride to Sarasota to see Puccini's Opera LaBoheme at the Sarasota Opera House. The opera goers sipped bloody marys and mimosas during the trip and then took over the Opera's Garden Courtyard to enjoy special box lunches which were prepared by the RPYC kitchen staff. Lee & Carol Sutliffe, the Royal Adventures' Co-Chairpersons, Laquita Passauer and Ernie Fogg served wine during lunch. The rains which had dampened downtown Sarasota during the morning turned to glorious sun as lunch ended and some strolled the downtown shops which other remained in the courtyard. The opera started at 1:30pm and, although divided into four acts, the final curtain fell at 4:30. Everyone made their way back to the bus which was parked across the street, and we began our ride back to Fort Myers. A real party spirit prevailed and our "bus attendants" served wine and beer during the trip. A poll was taken and everyone raised their hands for Madam Butterfly in late January, 2007 which will be included in the short season before the Opera House is closed for about a year which it undergoes a $24+ million refurbishing. We pulled back into the RPYC parking lot at 6:15 pm and all of the remaining supplies were off loaded and in the Sutliffe's van in rapid order to be stored until the Royal Adventurers' next trip to see the King Tut Exhibit in Fort Lauderdale on Monday, March 13, 2006.
