Well, here it is September
already --- and it’s “Swan Song” time. Where did the year go?
It’s truly been an honor (and
fun) to have served as your Commodore this last year.
My goal was to keep the RPYC
train on the track toward excellence and fiscal responsibility
and not let it run out of steam nor get derailed. I believe we
accomplished the goal.
But there’s no “I” in team.
Thanks to all of “YOU” who made it all possible: the Flags, the
Board, Management and especially all the Committees. Our Club’s
spirit of volunteerism continues to be the fuel that fires our
“train.” Only people make things happen!
We all look forward with much
anticipation to what our new General Manager, Mr. “Bill” Hamric
has in store for us. His leadership along with our talented
staff will continue the momentum toward excellence. My special
thanks to our dedicated staff – Jason, the servers; Chef Levon
and his kitchen staff; our administrative staff, and of course,
our traffic director, Phyllis. And again, thanks Ray for your
support this year.
Don’t forget! Our Annual
General Membership Meeting, Tuesday, September 12th
at 5:30PM and the Change of Watch and Fleet Review
Ceremonies over the September 30th and October 1st
weekend.
Let’s have a big welcome for
our new Bridge and Board Officers. I know you will all give Hal
Slaughter and the Incoming Flags and Board your continued full
support.
Throughout the year, my best
friend and companion (and wife), Joan, has been there to keep me
on course and away from shoals (most of the time). Her personal
touch was reflected in the very successful Ladies’ Luncheons,
“Wings of Gold” New Year’s Eve celebration, Commodore’s
Christmas Eve morning “Cheer” and the Children’s Christmas and
Easter parties. Thanks Joan for your enthusiasm and support.
And for the last time: “Always
keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat
them later.”
