On May 1st the Kentucky Derby came to the Royal Palm Yacht Club in grand style.

At approximately 3:30 the first race started with Jockeys Alan Baum & Dick Wendeborn, leadind the races. A grateful thanks goes out to Bob Hansen for his help in constructing the betting booths and the race tract surround. The betting windows were manned by Phyllis Golas, who also designed and printed all of our betting tickets, Laurene Baum, Barbara Pancoast, Liz Zych, Lynn Laskey, and Charlene Borys. Last and most importantly the pay out master was Len Zych. After the RPYC ,we participated in the real Derby race. I believe all in attendance had a fabulous time. Following The exciting races a "Ladies Hat Contest" was held and seven prizes were awarded. A superb dinner was enjoyed with many traditional dishes combined into the meal by our wonderful chief and his culinary team. What would the Derby be without mint juleps expertly prepared by our Bar staff. Danny G. provided the evenings entertainment vocalizing our favorite dance music. We wish to thank our hosts Alan & Laurene Baum and Dick and D. A. Wendeborn for a wonderful day.
