Past
Commodores
Mates Cruise
aboard
the M.S. Balmoral
March 24th thru
April 5th 2008
|
At noon on a sunny Monday
March 24th thirty
seven members assembled in
front of the Club to board a
chartered bus bound for the
Miami Cruise Terminal.
The 10 night cruise on board
the M.S. Balmoral (a 1200
passenger ship) was under
the auspices of the P.C.M.A.
and included five Past
Commodores and their wives.
Boarding went very smoothly
with no delay and the
Balmoral set sail at 11:00
PM that night. The Balmoral
is a Fred Olsen Cruise Line
ship. This is a British
company so we all
experienced a flavor of
Britain as there were only a
total of 52 Americans along
with a few Canadians and a
handful of other
nationalities on board.
Ports of Call were San Juan,
St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St
Maarten – St Martin, Tortola
B.V.I. and the Turks and
Caicos. This itinerary was
changed from the original
advertised itinerary and our
intrepid leaders (P.C.
Gordon and Audrey Ramsay)
negotiated a substantial
exclusive on board credit to
compensate for this.
Needless to say our group
had no difficulty whatsoever
in using this up!
Everyone had an enjoyable
time and the camaraderie was
enhanced by the seating
arrangements for dinner. All
the men wore their Club
uniform of Club Blazer with
Club tie and grey slacks for
the two formal nights during
the cruise. This intrigued
not only many of the
passengers but also the
Captain who remarked it
would be nice when he could
wear the Past Commodore
stars!
Our cruise which was blessed
with good weather came to an
end on Thursday April 3rd
and everyone arrived safely
back at the Club at 2:30 PM
that day.
