Second Annual Mother’s Day Weekend Cruise
After negotiating the newly marked channel into the resort, which proved challenging, boaters were treated to a very refreshing Mango Belini courtesy of the Sangiovannis. As the temperature heated up the group headed for either the beach or the pool facing beautiful Pine Island Sound. For dinner the first evening friends grouped together and dined aboard or in the excellent restaurant adjacent to the marina.
Friday morning we were treated to a lavish continental breakfast followed by a leisure day spent at the pool while some headed for the golf course. A steak dinner prepared by chefs Sandy Leathers and Ralph Sangiovanni with all the trimmings and side dishes was enjoyed by all followed by a joke telling session which proved more than just amusing; it was a riot. A panel of judges consisting of Sandy Leathers, Commodore Guveyian, and Melodie Simonsen selected four finalists - Mary Clausen, Sherri Warenik, Ed Hatter and Bob Thomas - who were offered up to the excited audience to choose the winner. Ed Hatter and Sherri Warenik prevailed with their hilarious jokes too raunchy to include in this censored trip report.
Saturday was another day of relaxation and enjoying friendships at the pool and beach. Following a cocktail reception the group boarded a trolly, designed as a replica of a San Francisco trolly car, and headed to The Captiva Yacht Club for a delightful dinner. The evening was completed by a trip down Captive Island with an occasional clang clang clang of the trolly bell.
Sunday morning we were treated to an elaborate Mother’s Day breakfast of pan cakes and sausage, locs and bagels, scrambled eggs, muffins and the usual bloody mary’s. As has become traditional, the cruise leaders provided each of the ladies in attendance with a beautiful long stem rose.
The entire group left South Seas with plans to put next year’s Mothers Day Cruise on their respective cruise calendars.
