Storm? What storm? Royal Palm boaters didn’t let the threat of TS Bonnie scare us away from having fun! Our weekend unofficially started on Thursday afternoon at St. Charles with four boats coming a day early. We relaxed in the pool and enjoyed a movie that evening in the St. Charles Yacht Club cabana. Although we were worried that most boaters would cancel the next day, several boats showed Friday. Rain came off and on, but we were still able to spend some time in the pool. That evening everyone shared appetizers. We had enough food to feed the entire community. Yummy stuff! We watched the movie “Invictus” that night about Nelson Mandela & the South African soccer team. Kathy Tapken, being the “Jersey Girl” that she is, couldn’t understand the words & decided it was a foreign film!
Saturday’s weather was great with just a few showers in the late afternoon. Golf at Shell Point was still on in the morning . Hilarious pool games in the afternoon. As usual, everyone cheated so we really don’t know who won!
Dinner that evening was wonderful as it usually is at St. Charles with over 50 people joining us, some by boat and some by car. Prizes for golf were awarded after dinner. Jim McKinley won the coveted “Golden Putter ‘Award for lowest number of putts. Pat Rousch won a very interesting hat for closest to the pin. (Please see photos on the website!) For you golfers who are wondering, Pat missed the putt.
Sunday morning was back in the Cabana for a continental breakfast before everyone left for home. From the sounds of the conversations that morning, I think we solved the problems of the world. Or so we thought!
