The sky was blue, the winds were calm and the temperature was moderate making for a perfect day for the Royal Palm Yacht Club’s 2009 Fleet Review. This time honored tradition dates back to the fifteenth century by the British Royal Navy and has been part of the RPYC tradition since our founding in 1947.
The ceremony included the pledge of allegiance led by Charlie Guveiyian, the National Anthem and Amazing Grace sung by Pam Simon, and the blessing of the fleet by our Chaplain, The Reverend Ted Gault. The dear friends that we lost this year were honored by a moving ceremony that included a memorial wreath, playing of taps and the names of our departed members read by Past Commodore Mar Guveiyian.
It was then time for Parade Marshall, Len Zych to begin the on-water parade with 18 boats participating in the pass in review. The guests on each boat saluted the incoming Commodore Chuck Williamsen and incoming officers, Past Commodore Mar Guveiyian and outgoing officers and the Past Commodores. The captains of the 18 participating vessels demonstrated their seamanship as they departed the harbor, followed the parade route and returned to the marina in an orderly and safe fashion.
A lovely and lively reception was then hosted by Commodore Chuck Williamsen. It was a perfect ending to a near perfect day! |
