Fort Myers FL - Members of
Royal Palm Yacht Club have continued a nine-year tradition of
giving to The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, with
this year’s holiday Giving Tree campaign. With over $13,000 in
gifts so far in 2006, the total of funds contributed to The
Children’s Hospital throughout the years exceeds $93,000.
RPYC Giving Tree funds are designated for the purchase of
much-needed medical equipment for the care and comfort of sick
children in the hospitals. This year’s goal includes the
purchase of three pulse oximeters and a TV games system for the
HealthPark location, and a sleep apnea monitor and two vital
signs monitors for the Cape Coral location.
RPYC Vice Commodore Robert Minahan and his wife Judy Minahan are
chairpersons of this year’s fundraising project. They selected
the specially designed natural shell ornament that is hung on
The Giving Tree in the lobby of the club in the name of each
contributor. The ornaments will be distributed to contributors
when the campaign is complete. |

“This is one of
many ways that RPYC members give back to the communities in which we
live,” said Mr. Minahan. “Our members donate in lieu of exchanging
holiday cards, and much more, knowing their gifts benefit critically
sick children today and into the future.”
Kathy Bridge-Liles, RN, MS, Vice President for Women’s and
Children’s Services of The Children’s Hospital said, “the gift of
this equipment is a meaningful support to the care that is provided
our young patients and their comfort while in treatment. It is much
appreciated by both the professional staff in charge of that care,
and the families of our sick children.”
RPYC Commodore Hal Slaughter added, “although our club does many
community outreach projects every year, this is our largest
undertaking, and without a doubt the one closest to our members’
hearts.” In addition to individual contributions from members and
friends, several fundraisers were held throughout the fall with
proceeds going to the Giving Tree campaign for The Children’s
Hospital.
