The Royal
Adventurers
gathered at
RPYC on
April 9 for
the gala
dinner and
concert of
Serenade at
Sunset. The
theme was a
First Class
dining experience
aboard the
R.M.S.
Lusitania,
and during
hors
d'oeuvres
and cocktails,
there was an
opportunity
to review
photos of
the ship.
Our elegantly
appointed
dining room
welcomed us
with
illuminated
menus, photos
of the
luxurious
first class
dining room,
and an
historical summary
of the life
of the great
Cunard
liner. The
six course
dinner replicated
the menu on
September
13, 1914.
From the
delicious
turtle soup
starter,
through the
fillet of
sole,
roasted New
York strip
loin steak,
sorbet and
bibb lettuce
salad, all
were
exquisitely
prepared and
presented.
Wines were
paired with
each course.
As the sun
set, we made
our way into
the Bridge
Room for
the "serenade"
part of the
evening.
Here dessert
tables were
prepared
for
us and
liquors and
coffee were
served. Our
concert
featured
Mimi
Diaz Bonarti
at the
piano, and
Danut
Muresan on
the violin.
Mimi, an
RPYC member,
began
playing the
piano as a
5-year-old
in her
native Philippines.
She has
studied
classical
piano
extensively
and
presented
many
concerts in
the
tri-state
area around
New York
City, where
she
previously
lived.
Danut was
born in
Romania and
began playing
the violin
at the age
of 4. He
has played
with many
symphony orchestras
around the
world,
recorded for
the Romanian
National
Radio and
Television
Network, and
is currently
a member of
the
Southwest Florida
Symphony and
the Palm
Beach Opera.
Mimi and
Danut each
played solo
selections,
alternating
with
several pieces
together.
It was a
program that
showed the
virtuoso
skills
of both of
these fine
artists, and
was rewarded
with a
collective standing
ovation from
the
appreciative
audience.
Curtis and
Nancy Graff
were the
Adventure
Leaders for
the event
and were
applauded
for making
it an
outstanding
experience
for all.
