Royal Adventures - SARASOTA POLO BUS TRIP
|
The scheduled date of the Sarasota Polo Event, Sunday, April 11,arrived for the Royal Adventurers RA with a weather forecast of rain. It was raining as the committee members loaded supplies into their vehicles and headed for the RPYC parking lot. We had the feeling that RA also stood for Really Adventuresome. Mimosas, bloody marys, and coffee/donuts were enjoyed by the traveling group while at RPYC parking lot with no rain. Fifty one (51) members/guests and two (2) RPYC staff members boarded our chartered bus. We loaded folding chairs, folding tables, supplies, food, and drink into the luggage area. A Sarasota Polo magazine containing polo pictures and rules was provided as participants entered the bus. We departed and encountered heavy rain until we were within a few miles of Sarasota. We arrived at the polo field to find nice weather and a large crowd. The High Point Farm and the Mustang Ranch teams were preparing for the polo match. We departed the bus and unloaded the supplies. Food, drink, and, the polo match which was won by the Mustang Ranch team 8-5 made a very enjoyable afternoon. We saw 6 chukkers of polo with a half time including "divot stomping" by the spectators and a wagon pulled by four well groomed horses giving rides to children. We loaded the bus for our trip home which included snacks and refreshments, Pat Martin was the winner of our "name the winning team and score" contest. Back at the RPYC we were happy that the absence of rain at the location of the outside events contributed significantly to "a good time was had by all".
