The event: Second of four planned Hard Hat Receptions
The Purpose: Allow members into the construction area to see first hand the progress to date and hear about the next steps of the renovation.
Overview: On Sunday, October 5, the club hosted our 2nd Hard Hat Event. This event, coupled with a special Jazz Brunch, was the second in a series of four. It provided over 60 club members and their guests an opportunity to see first hand the state of the renovations taking place on the first floor of our club. Due to insurance and safety regulations, these events provide us the only opportunity to see what's happening -- up close and personal. The universal reaction was - "WOW!"  The progress since our last Hard Hat at the end of August was impressive. But more then just the progress, what is taking shape is exciting and gratifying. Upon entering the Club, the attendees were given Hard Hats and complimentary drink tickets. Then they were escorted in small groups into the construction area for a personal tour with one of our "White Hats" (members who are working with the RPYC Mortgage LLC). While everyone was enjoying some Sunday morning libations, our master of ceremonies, Carl Natalie, introduced our new commodore, Mar Guveiyian, who made her first public speech since taking office last weekend. Commodore Guveiyian recognized the work being put in by those members who have contributed their time and efforts to this venture. She also praised the quality of what we are seeing and will see in the future. Before turning the mike over to our new Rear Commodore, Terri Natale, the Commodore led the group in singing happy birthday wishes to Terri (who was celebrating her 29th birthday that day). Terri then provided the attendees with an update on construction (which continues to run ahead of schedule) and what they'll be seeing by the time the next Hard Event happens in mid-November. Ron Friedman, one of the Mortgage LLC managers, then reported that we are pleased with the members response with our renewed drive to raise money to loan to the Club so that we can reduce our reliance on bank borrowing. Ron urged all members to look at their personal finances and see if they couldn't help their club by investing in the LLC -- an investment whose guaranteed return and security are looking more and more attractive in these difficult economic times. Following this program, most of the Hard Hat attendees ajorneyed to our upstairs dining room for the Club's fabulous Sunday Brunch, which was enhanced even further by a some live jazz scheduled by the entertainment committee especially for this event. We look forward to you joining us on November 12th for our next Hard Hat -- a Wednesday night for a "redneck" BBQ and an appearance by the Blue Collar comedians. Sign up early for this one!!
